Wiktor Smolak
Wiktor Smolak is a prominent Wehzek politician and the current President of Wehlen. In addition to his presidential duties, he serves as the commander-in-chief of the Wehzek Armed Forces. Smolak is renowned for his staunch advocacy of 'Wehzek nationalism with socialist characteristics.' He is the third president of the Republic of Wehlen and has been a pivotal figure in local politics following the departure of Arcasian troops in 1936, which occurred in the aftermath of the Wehlen Civil War. Smolak initially rose to prominence as the leader of the National Nurist Alliance of Wehlen until 1930, a movement that fervently promoted Wehzek nationalism intertwined with Nurist traditionalism. Dissatisfied with the previous administrations' inability to free Wehlen from the war, Smolak founded the Wehzek Nationalist Party of Nurist Socialism in 1932. This new political entity amalgamated religious Nurist beliefs with Wehzek nationalism and socialism. After surviving a decade filled with political battles, Smolak finally secured the presidency in 1943. During his early presidency, Smolak implemented severe measures against his political opponents, enacted strict censorship of the Wehzek press, and confiscated the assets of multimillionaires. A vocal critic of Arcasia, he blamed the royalists, liberals, and democrats for the civil war and the subsequent Arcasian involvement. Although previously an opponent of Malenyevist ideologies, Smolak shifted his stance post-war and sought to align Wehlen more closely with United Contana. This alliance proved beneficial, as it facilitated significant financial aid from the CSP, helping to ameliorate the nation's economic woes. Smolak's vigorous promotion of Wehlen nationalism and adherence to Nurist doctrine also led to the oppression of ethnic and religious minorities within the country. His rule has been marked by the widespread persecution of the Bludish people, including thousands of arrests and deaths, alongside military campaigns against the Bludish Freedom Front, which established bases in northeastern Wehlen.
