Soll Dam

The Soll Dam (also called Erzaren Soll Dam) is the largest source of hydroelectricity in Sordland. Its construction was started by the order of President Tarquin Soll in 1933 as a solution to the energy crisis that existed in the region for decades. The dam was surrounded by controversy due to the site being home to an old Bludish village called Izzam, which would be flooded if the dam were to be built. In the process of the construction, the local people of Izzam were forcefully relocated and the village was razed. During the divisive relocation event, many Bludish locals came to protest and tried to stop the construction from starting. In the protests, a soldier fired his rifle which killed a local Bludish man named Watani Aschraf. This event, also known as the ‘Izzam Incident’, caused turmoil in the region and led to the formation of the armed Bludish resistance movement called the ‘Bludish Freedom Front’. The dam opened three years after the tragic event, and despite the bloodshed, it proved to be a huge political success for Tarquin Soll in the following years. The electricity output of the country tripled, and the lake that formed was also given Soll’s name. Today, it continues to provide Bergia and Nargis regions with electricity.
