The Great Betrayal
The Great Betrayal refers to a series of incidents and purges that took place between Sollists and Monarchists during the Sordish Civil War and persisted throughout the Second Republic era. The event was sparked by a disagreement between Colonel Tarquin Soll's 6th Army and General Eduard Luderin's 4th and 5th Armies over military leadership in the fight against General Iannick Rikard during the Battle of Holsord. This conflict led to infighting between the two factions, which had previously fought together in smaller-scale engagements against Rikard's revolutionary forces. The 4th Army, under the command of Valken Kruger and General Eduard Luderin, switched allegiance and pledged loyalty to Colonel Tarquin Soll's forces. Several high-ranking officers in Luderin's command were assassinated, and supplies were stolen from the pro-monarchist forces. After suffering a battlefield defeat, Luderin was captured by Sollist forces and held as a prisoner. In the aftermath of Tarquin Soll's victory over all opposition forces, a series of trials and purges ensued. General Eduard Luderin and his top commanders, excluding those from the defecting 4th Army, were tried by a military tribunal and sentenced to execution for acts of treason against the Republic of Sordland. These purges extended to all government institutions, particularly targeting military and security positions associated with the monarchist forces who resisted the formation of the Second Republic and advocated for the return of the King. The Great Betrayal marked a dark and tumultuous period in Sordish history, with deep divisions and lasting consequences for the nation.
