Sallabes

Sallabes is a medium-sized coastal city in the Rizian province of Brenas. It is governed by House Sazon. Founded in the early days of the Rezenid empire, Sallabes developed a diverse and robust economy with strengths in shipping, finance and, later, tourism. As patrons of the arts, the Sazons have invested heavily in the city's cultural scene -- particularly the programming and upkeep of the Arena Sallabes, Rizia's most renowned open-air theater and an ESCAN heritage site. The arena is the centerpiece of the Oceanside Culture District, which also includes galleries, museums and several smaller performance halls. Since the 1930s, Sallabes has also been a port of call for asylum seekers and guest workers from Wehlen and Derdia. These new arrivals are generally housed in low-income blocks in the Sallabes suburbs, while the historic city center is occupied by wealthier residents and tourists. The mascot of Sallabes is the Scarlet Kingbird, a rare avian species that migrates to the city annually from southern Qinal.
